Dunedin is considered to be one of the four main urban centres of New Zealand for historic, cultural, and geographic reasons. It was New Zealand's largest city by population until about 1900, now it's the second-largest city in the South Island (the larger of the two major islands of New Zealand).
The photo shows the Octagon, the central part of Dunedin, chosen as the center of the city by Charles Kettle, Chief Surveyor of the New Zealand Company in 1846.
Dunedin jest uważane za jedno z czterech głównych centrów Nowej Zelandii pod względem historycznym, kulturalnym i geograficznym. Do 1900 roku było największym nowozelandzkim miastem, teraz natomiast jest drugim największym miastem na Wyspie Południowej (większej z dwóch najważniejszych wysp Nowej Zelandii).
