Albania (the Republic of Albania) is a home to almost 3 mln people and has a total area of 28 748 square kilometers. It is located on the Balkan Peninsula and borders Greece, the Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo. It also has coasts on the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas. It is a member of the UN and NATO.

That was some theory about the country. But what's in the picture?
Well, it is a mysterious place called Rozafa castle. It is located in northwestern part of the country near the city of Shkodër, one of Albania's oldest towns. The hill has been settled since antiquity, due to its strategic location.

There is a sad legend related to this place. It is about the initiative of three brothers who set about building the castle. They worked all day, but the walls fell down at night. They met a clever old man who advised them to sacrifice someone so that the walls would stand. The three brothers found it difficult to decide whom to sacrifice. Finally, they decided to sacrifice one of their wives who would bring lunch to them the next day. So they agreed that whichever of their wives was the one to bring them lunch the next day was the one who would be buried in the wall of the castle. They also promised not to tell their wives of this. The two older brothers, however, explained the situation to their wives that night, while the honest youngest brother said nothing.
The following afternoon, the brothers waited anxiously to see which wife was carrying the basket of food. It was Rosafa, the wife of the youngest brother. He explained to her the agreement that they had made, namely that she was to be sacrificed and buried in the wall of the castle so that they could finish building it. She did not protest. She was only worried about her infant son, so she accepted to be walled in on condition that they leave her right breast exposed to feed her newborn son, her right eye to see him, her right hand to caress him and her right foot to rock his cradle. It is said that milk still flows from one of the walls in the castle.

Albania (Republika Albanii) jest domem dla prawie 3 milionów ludzi o powierzchni 28 748 kilometrów kwadratowych. Kraj ten położony jest na Półwyspie Albańskim i sąsiaduje z Grecją, Macedonią, Czarnogórą i Kosowem. Posida także wybrzeża nad Morzem Adriatyckim oraz Morzem Jońskim. Albania jest członkiem ONZ oraz NATO.

Tyle teorii na temat kraju. A co przedstawia pocztówka?
Jest to zamek Rozafat, położony w północno-zachodniej części kraju niedaleko Szkodry, jednego z najstarszych miast w Albanii. Wzgórze zamkowe było zamieszkane już od czasów antycznych, ze względu na strategiczną lokalizację.

Z miejscem tym związana jest smutna legenda. Mówi ona o inicjatywnie trzech braci, którzy postanowili wybudować zamek. Niestety, po całym dniu ciężkiej pracy mury zapadały się każdej nocy. Pewiec stary mędrzec poradził braciom, iż tylko poświęcenie czyjegoś życia zapobiegnie zapadaniu się murów. Początkowo bracia nie mogli zdecydować, kto miałby zostać taką ofiarą, jednak ostatecznie postanowili, iż poświęcą żonę jednego z nich; ta, która nazajutrz przyniesie im posiłek zostanie zamurowana w ścianie. Postanowili także, iż żaden z nich nie ujawni żonie tej decyzji. Jak się jednak okazało, dwaj najstarsi bracia, w przeciwieństwie do najmłodszego, podzielili się tajemnicą z żonami.
Następnego popołudnia bracia wyczekiwali kobiety, która przyniesie im posiłek. Była to Rosafa, żona najmłodszego z braci, który wyjaśnił jej ideę ich porozumienia, potrzebę poświęcenia jej osoby, by mury mogły stać. Rosafa nie protestowała, była jedynie zmartwiona losem swojego dziecka, niemowlęcia. Zaakceptowała swój los pod warunkiem, iż na zewnątrz muru będzie wystawać jej prawa pierś, by mogła karmić syna, jej prawe oko, by mogła na niego spoglądać, jej prawa ręka, by mogła go głaskać oraz prawa stopa, by mogła bujać kołyskę. Do dziś mówi się, że z murów zamku nadal płynie mleko.
